[Post updated July 2025]
Would you like to listen to more legal English but don’t have much time?
Here are some of my favourite legal podcasts and videos, with suggestions for shortening your listening time. Hyperlinks can change, but the following were all working in July 2025:
Study Legal English has a YouTube site with over 150 podcasts and videos to help you improve your legal English vocabulary, grammar, and listening skills. For all English levels: beginner, intermediate, advanced.
Don’t have much time? See the Playlists for shorter videos on grammar, pronunciation, and vocabulary, or see the Shorts for quick vocabulary learning.
US Law Essentials explains USA legal concepts in short YouTube videos. US Law Essentials does not provide its own transcripts but you can use the YouTube-generated subtitles and transcripts. For beginner and intermediate English levels.
TED Talks has a section on legal topics and most episodes have transcripts. For intermediate to advanced English levels.
Don’t have much time? Narrow your search with the ‘Duration’ tab to talks of 0-6 minutes, 6-12 minutes...
The Law Show (previously ‘Law in Action’) is a long-running BBC Radio 4 programme with discussion and debates on current legal issues. Each episode lasts around 30 minutes and there are no transcripts. For upper intermediate to advanced English levels.
Don’t have much time? Click on ‘clips’ to listen to some short extracts from selected episodes.
Crafty Counsel has podcasts and videos on law, legal compliance, legal tech and more! It is mainly aimed at in-house counsel. For upper intermediate to advanced English levels. There are no transcripts.
Don’t have much time? The videos tend to be shorter than the podcasts. All videos from January to July 2025 are under 5 minutes long.
Financial Times podcasts : business and finance news for corporate lawyers with an advanced English level. These podcasts are available for free, but the transcripts are behind a paywall.
Don’t have much time? Try the FT News Briefing : each episode lasts around 10 minutes.
